What are Toothpaste Tablets?

What exactly is a toothpaste tablet?

In simple terms, toothpaste tabs are nothing but our good old pal toothpowder which is just compacted into a tablet or in other words, it is our toothpaste minus the water.

Why should we care to use toothpaste tabs if we are happy with our toothpaste?

Toothpaste was developed to replace tooth powder. Since its inception in the 1860s, toothpaste has remained almost unchanged, with the exception of its packaging, which has evolved from glass jars through aluminum tubes to non-recyclable plastic tubes.

Toothpaste contains between 40 and 50 % water, which requires additional ingredients such as humectants (to prevent water from drying out), emulsifiers (to form a binding between oil and water), thickening agents (to preserve the paste's consistency), and preservatives (to prevent bacterial growth) , etc as aids.

Therefore, only 35-40% ingredients in a toothpaste actually aids in oral health, rest are just bulking ingredients (which reduces the density of the compound, generally used to reduce cost).

Furthermore, the toothpaste must be packaged in an inert environment to prevent water loss. & bacterial development, thus they are packaged in numerous layers of plastic, which ultimately ends up in a landfill.

Additionally, the bulk of toothpaste sold in India includes potentially dangerous substances that are even outlawed in the EU and US, such as Triclosan, PEG, Glycerin, Parabens, SLS, etc.

Why not simply use tooth powder? If toothpaste is so undesirable.

For so long, Indians have used toothpowder or other natural alternatives to brush, but large FMCG corporations with large marketing expenditures have forced us to use toothpaste.

Tooth Powders are fantastic, but they are messy and difficult to use because it is difficult to determine how much to take at once, and adding the powder to the toothbrush is also difficult.

This is where toothpaste tablets come into the equation; they are a combination of vital ingredients compressed into a tablet that is similar to a pea size amount of toothpaste, thereby resolving the issues with toothpowder.

Consequently, Toothpaste Tabs are a superior option to toothpaste, as they are not only natural but also eliminate a significant portion of the plastic waste we produce while brushing.
